Mercer Street Playground

The Mercer Street Park occupies a block-long strip along Mercer Street in New York's NoHo district. Conceived as an interactive outdoor play-space, the new park utilizes a map of the United States fabricated from recycled rubber products to create a new and different playground. A sandbox shaped like California with life guard stands and umbrellas defines one coast with the climbing spires of New York City marking the other.  State names, state capitals, state birds and state flowers have all been integrated into this playground geared for six to twelve year olds.

Particular attention has been given to child safety, maintenance, and upkeep issues as well as to creating a dynamic playscape for this unique site.
