FLUSHING MEADOWS

CORONA PARK
FLUSHING, NEW YORK
for the NYC Parks Department

This comprehensive signage and planning project for Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the site of the 1939 and 1964 World's Fairs and the current home of Shea Stadium and the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament, addresses the complex needs of this enormous urban park.

To organize this 1,300 acre park, Wormser + Associates developed a comprehensive pedestrian and vehicular signage program. Strong architectural elements and a highly visible color system were designed to aid both vehicular and pedestrian visitors. The style of the new signage system evokes the high-tech imagery and history of the site as exemplified by the Unisphere. The new system was developed in conjunction with the state and city agencies and has been installed throughout the metropolitan area.
